I am a Baby-Boomer who grew up in the farm country of southwestern Oklahoma. Some of my best friends during my early years were farm folks and horses. I learned a lot just by being on the farm and around farmers. My mother was an English teacher who read Shakespeare to me when I was tiny. I expect that is why I love language and writing.
I have learned a tremendous amount from my children. All my adventurous children are grown up now and usually available by cell phone. I am also very fortunate to be an adopted aunt, or godmother, and grandmother.
After several attempts at a college degree, I finished my BA at Goddard College in Vermont through a program which allowed me bring together my experience, my research, and my writing. I love being outdoors. I love the colors, the sounds, the textures of Nature. I love walking early in the day and just before sunset. We have 3 dogs at home who keep life interesting, especially if there is a skunk in the neighborhood.
I work at our district Fire Department as Administrative Assistant to the Chief and I am also an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician). I have learned a lot about building community and fund-raising by serving on the department Auxiliary Board with several amazing and dedicated women.
For the past 12 years I have worked with the White Rose Foundation on projects for peace and improving global understanding. Our first group trip was to the United Nations Conference on Women in Beijing 1995. That was an amazing experience.
One of my favorite sayings is attributed to Grandma Moses, who said, "Life is what you make it. Always has been, always will be." My dad used to say, especially in his later years, "You'll be remembered by the love you leave behind." And, in moments of crisis, my mom would usually say, "Love will find a way."
My firm belief is that if we can find a way to work together and share what we know, we can solve almost any problem or difficulty. I also know that if I ask the right questions, I'll get a good answer. Someone, somewhere in the Universe will respond.
